Flicks for the Fourth of July

The cinema. Hollywood. Glamour. Red carpets. Maybe Hollywood always knew it was a patriot’s industry, adorned with sparkling white lights, red carpets and iconic blue-eyed stars. Perhaps not. We at the Clog don’t care about the symbolism here, but we do love a good flick. If you’re anything like us Cloggers, the Fourth of July get’s us plum-tucker-tired. It’s like a game day: summer edition. Thus the eve of the 4th – post fireworks of course – is most desirable if spent in bed with cheesy sticks and a saucy film.

So without further ado, here are some feel-good flicks for this Fourth of July eve.

“13 going on 30”

Ah, a true classic. Nothing screams girls’ night in like Razzles, “Poise,” Jennifer Garner and Mark Buffalo. This movie manages to make us smile every time. Plus, are you even American if you don’t brush up on your “Thriller” routine every now and again?

Dancing to “Love is a Battlefield” on your bed is the perfect cardio to help you burn off those calories from chugging IPAs and downing hot dogs.

“The Breakfast Club”

Don’t you … forget about this movie. Oh my golly, Miss Molly Ringwald is never better (unless you count literally every John Hughes movie in which she strikes the perfect balance of cool girl and girl-next-door). Nonetheless, this film is the perfect all-American flick for any occasion. Something about all the players from high school locked in one room really gets us feelin’ some typa of way.

Plus, how can you not love virgin gossip and precious, nerdy Brain.

“The Parent Trap”

Seeing double? Don’t worry drunk pals, Lindsey Lohan is brilliant in this film times two! This wholesome flick reminds us all of the glory of camp, or allows us lame little lads to fantasize about how lit it would’ve been if we were able to attend.

Imagine if your mom designed wedding gowns in London and your daddio made wine. A bougie childhood dressing yourself in wedding gowns while gallivanting around the house. I think yes.

“Dirty Dancing”

I’ve hadddd the time of my life. And I’ve never felt this hungover before. No evening in bed is as good as an evening with Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze.

No one puts Baby or our cheese sticks in a corner. Munch away away while you take in the wonder of this classic.

PSA: don’t do the lift, you’re not an eagle, and let’s pray you didn’t shave your head today.

“The Lizzie McGuire Movie”

Rome. This Fourth of July, swerve the mayhem that is America and go with your childhood pals to Roma.

Pretend you too will meet a Paolo, minus the lip-syncing, and your life will finally take off.

Hey now, hey now, this is what dreams are made of.
