Berkeley resident fatally shot near South Berkeley border

A Berkeley resident was fatally shot Saturday morning at the border between South Berkeley and Oakland.

The Oakland Police Department arrived on the scene at 10:50 a.m. after receiving a report of gunfire at the intersection of 63rd and Market streets and found the man with a gunshot wound.  

The man was then transported to a local hospital, where he died. According to OPD, the man’s identity is being withheld until his relatives are notified.

OPD has initiated a homicide callout, and investigators are looking into circumstances surrounding the death. The police department is asking anyone with information to contact the OPD Homicide Section at 510-238-3821 or the tip line at 510-238-7950.
