We’re only a couple of days away from school, and if you’re a continuing student, you probably have mixed feelings about getting back to campus and classes. Whether you’re a sophomore or a senior, you know that fall semester is filled with game days, UC Berkeley spirit and fun events — but if you’re still feeling the back-to-school blues, we at the Clog are here to give you five easy ways to cheer yourself up early in the semester!
Talk to new students
They’re bright-eyed and hopeful — exactly what you need to give yourself a new perspective on the semester. Talk to a freshman or transfer student and ask them what they’re excited about or what their plans for the semester are. Give yourself the chance to realize that you’re lucky to be here and that there are so many opportunities and new things to experience.
Decorate your room
If you’re coming back to the same room, a little change of scenery can go a long way. Get some string lights, rearrange your furniture or adopt a succulent! Switching things up will stop you from feeling like you’re back to the same old grind, so spend time on decor to brighten up your space!
Join a new club
A new club means different people, fun socials and free pizza. If this is what you need to cheer yourself up this semester, there are tons of clubs recruiting every fall. Try actually taking flyers from Sproul this time around instead of avoiding them at all costs.
Commit to plans in advance
Make plans with your friends before you’re deep into homework and exams. Doing this will make sure you get out, give yourself a break and have lots of fun events as a silver lining even during the hardest parts of the semester. Start filling out those Wejoinins and When2meets!
Recharge your school spirit
Let Cal Band and Rally Committee remind you what it really means to be a Golden Bear! Fall semester means you have loads of games (and game day festivities) to keep yourself busy, so have some fun to divert your attention from classes.
Even though we’re almost back to classes, there’s so much more than just lecture and homework to focus on during the semester, so make sure you put in the effort to shake things up and stay positive!
