Police confirm suspect of elderly woman stabbing to be victim’s son

Police discovered that an elderly woman who was stabbed in her home near 1500 Edith St. on Sept. 4 was allegedly attacked by her son, as first reported by Berkeleyside.

According to documents obtained by Berkeleyside, the woman was stabbed by her son more than 20 times, and the attack was “unrelenting.” The woman told the police her son had mental health issues and was taking medication.

Mark Edward Jekabson, 42, was apprehended Wednesday by the Pinole Police Department about 3:30 p.m., according to a Nixle alert issued Thursday.

Berkeleyside stated that Jekabson is currently in custody at Santa Rita Jail and has a court hearing for Oct. 31.
