Berkeley Police Department responded to 911 calls reporting gunfire and a person on the ground by Derby and Grant streets about 1:14 p.m. Friday, according to BPD Lt. Peter Hong, as first reported by Berkeleyside.

According to Hong, when officers arrived at the scene, they located a 21-year-old male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds; he was transported to the hospital with “serious wounds.”

At 1:47 p.m. a Nixle alert was sent by BPD informing the community that there would be traffic delays on Derby Street between Martin Luther King Jr. Way and Mcgee Avenue as well as Grant Street between Carleton and Ward streets.

Emergency medical personnel transported the man to a local hospital, and he is currently in stable condition.
