Suspect Arrested in Southside Shooting

Berkeley police have arrested a suspect in connection with Tuesday's Southside shooting.

According to a statement by Berkeley police, Berkeley resident Nathaniel Freeman, 19, was arrested on suspicion of murder in Tuesday's shooting death of Berkeley resident Maceo Smith. Freeman was also booked on one count of assault with a deadly weapon in connection with injuries sustained by another victim in the shooting.

Freeman turned himself in to police yesterday afternoon, according to the statement.

Smith was killed on Tuesday near the intersection of Durant Avenue and Bowditch Street as a result of the shooting, and another man was also injured.
