As promised yesterday by coach Jeff Tedford, practice this morning featured an abbreviated mock game with players running through a series of situations on both sides of the ball and on special teams. Although it was a helmets-only session, practice actually lasted over two hours, due in part to an extended conditioning segment at the end.

"(The situations) went well," Tedford said. "I thought there was a lot of focus, a lot of attention to detail. For some of the young guys, it's the first time that they go through that type of thing so it's a learning situation for them."

What the practice did not feature were any more hints about the depth chart. After watching video of yesterday's scrimmage, Tedford said that nothing jumped out at him that he hadn't seen on the field. He also maintained that nothing should be read into the receivers--LaReyelle Cunningham, Jeremy Ross and Sean Young--who practiced with the first-team offense today. However, the depth chart might start to take shape during a personnel meeting this afternoon.

Tedford also gave a brief injury update and seemed confident that none of the players currently in red jerseys will be sidelined permanently. Wideout Michael Calvin and tight end Cameron Morrah should both be back in action soon, while Syd'Quan Thompsonis "getting strength and getting closer." Tedford did say that defensive end Cody Jones is "probably a ways away" from returning to the field.

The Bears have a nearly three-hour practiced scheduled for tomorrow evening. After two and a half weeks of camp, it's finally time to start preparing for Michigan State.

"It's a chance now to get the game plan together and put everything together that we've been working on," Tedford said.
