When UC Berkeley sophomore Janet Lee received the news that she had won Microsoft's "Digital Dorm Room" contest, her initial reaction was to delete the e-mail as spam.

"It looked like one of those internet scams, to be honest. But then I noticed it had to do with Caltopia, and luckily I read it through," Lee said.

As one of three raffle winners from thirteen universities across the country, Lee received a new entertainment center provided by the Windows Media Center campaign.

A 42-inch TV, a new computer, an Xbox 360 console and a Zune media player were installed in Lee's apartment last Friday.

Microsoft's dorm room contest was featured during Welcome Week at the Recreational Sports Facility, where Lee and her roommate Luis Tapia played Guitar Hero before filling out their raffle tickets. Lee was one of several thousand college students who entered their names in the raffle.

Lee's previous television set was shared by over 15 other students in the common room of her Haste Street boarding house, the only room with cable access.

Lee's new television now receives its signal over the internet.

"We wanted to showcase a modern room in which all the technology is seamless," a Microsoft representative said.

While Lee said she is excited to have such an extravagant setup in her room, she said she is worried that her new TV combined with her Rock Band addiction, will affect her work ethic.

"I really hope it doesn't stop me from studying. Any excuse at all not to do your homework is readily used," Lee said.
