Playing at the Hellman Tennis Complex for the final time in her collegiate career, senior Bojana Bobusic wanted to leave on a good note.

With the Cal women's tennis team up 3-1 on Texas, Bobusic was in a spot to do just that.

Bobusic dominated the second set en route to a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Amanda Craddock, and helped the Bears clinch a 4-1 second-round victory in the NCAA Women's Tennis Championship.

"I think I was more excited than nervous, because it was my last match here at Hellman," Bobusic said. "It was really sweet to clinch."

At first, senior Claire Ilcinkas looked as if she wouldn't leave with a fond memory of her final home match. Ilcinkas and sophomore Marina Cossou dropped their doubles match, 8-4.

With Cal's top pairing of sophomore Mari Andersson and freshman Jana Juricova suffering the same fate in doubles play, the Bears (19-4, 7-1 Pac-10) were down early on in the match, 1-0.

But Ilcinkas, and almost every other Cal player, came out firing on all cylinders in singles play.

Facing Lancaster in singles this time, Ilcinkas rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win and gave the Bears their first point of the match.

Cal's momentum could not be stopped by Texas (17-8, 10-1 Big 12) as Juricova and Cossou wrapped up their matches soon after.

"In matches like this, when you start playing to four, it's very easy to get distracted and watch everyone else's court," Bears coach Amanda Augustus said. "I think we did a good job with that this weekend, because everyone was just playing and focused on their own court."

Cal's weekend overall provided little to no challenges. On Friday, the Bears pounded Long Island in a 4-0 victory.

Still, Augustus didn't want her team to become complacent discussed strategies with her players between points.

"I'm always trying to get them to work on something," Augustus said. "When we get to Texas, we're going to have tougher matches, so instead of just playing the same point that got her to that point, I'm having them work on where they're hitting the ball."

Having been in this situation before, Ilcinkas knew the importance of igniting a competitive spark before advancing to later rounds.

"The first round wasn't really competitive, but today, we had to fight and it helped us get in the competition," Ilcinkas said.

In the round of 16, eighth-seeded Cal will face ninth-seeded Georgia Tech (18-7, 9-2 ACC) in College Station, Texas, at 1 p.m., on Friday, May 15.

"It's so exciting," Bobusic said. "Yesterday it was one down, five to go. Today, it's two down, four to go. We're all pumped and can't wait to get to Texas."
