A police officer was taken to the hospital following a car crash near the UC Berkeley campus Sunday afternoon.

A UCPD officer was driving her patrol car when the car collided with a Mercedes Benz sedan at the intersection of Dana Street and Durant Avenue at around 1 p.m. Sunday, witnesses said.

The officer, who has not been identified, was taken to a hospital in an ambulance following the collision.

As of Sunday evening, police said that they could not disclose the condition of the officer or the hospital where she was taken.

David Mostny, the driver of the Mercedes, said that he was driving through a green light on Durant Avenue when he hit the patrol car in the intersection.

UCPD Sergeant Thomas Wing said that the incident is currently under investigation and that he could not comment on specific details regarding the crash.

Mostny said he did not suffer serious injuries from the collision.

He said he was picking up his daughter, UC Berkeley sophomore Jackie Mostny, to have lunch when he crashed into the police patrol car.

David Mostny said he was driving eastbound on Durant Avenue as the patrol car traveled through the intersection moving southbound on Dana Street.

He said that he hit his brakes but was unable to avoid crashing into the patrol car.

A large dent was visible on the side of the patrol car at the scene.

"She just came. Usually the police would stop and hesitate," David Mostny said. "But (the car) did not even hesitate. She just kept going."
