As the quarterback for the Cal football team in 2003-2004, Aaron Rodgers guided the Bears to two bowl games while passing for 51 touchdowns and 5,469 yards.

Rodgers was drafted in the first round by Green Bay in 2005 and is now the starting quarterback for the Packers.

After an off-season practice in Green Bay, Rodgers gave the Daily Cal a call and reminisced about his days in Berkeley and shared some of his new experiences as the Packers' quarterback.

Katie Dowd: You might have gotten a little bit of this at Cal, but obviously you're a bigger celebrity now, especially being in such a devoted fan base. Do you get any weird requests?

Aaron Rodgers: Oh, I got a ton. I don't know how many stories you want me to give you. I've had everything from people showing up on my doorstep last season. Multiple people. I averaged about two (door) knocks per week for a while there. Just random people.

I've had parents send photo albums of their daughters out to me. Also to my parents out in California. With letters attached telling either myself or them why I should be dating their daughter. A lot of parents just trying to pawn their daughters off on me.

Also, crazy requests like one woman asked me if I would be the best man in her and her fiance's wedding. I didn't know them either. Those are some of the highlights. Or lowlights.

KD: Do you come back to Berkeley at all?

AR: I was back this spring actually for a charity event in San Francisco ... I stopped by Cal the next day and saw some of the guys. I'm buddies with Kevin Riley so I saw Kevin.

I dropped by the facility for a little bit. I actually got yelled at. They were finally able to do that project there (Renovating Memorial Stadium and constructing the Student-Athlete High Performance Center), and I haven't been back in like a year, so I went to the gate I've always gone in, and this guy just was giving me the business. Calling me every dirty name in the book. 'Get out of my work site, where's your hard hat?' And I'm like, 'I'm just trying to get into the football office.' And the guy was not happy. Needless to say, it wasn't a great reunion back at Cal but once I got inside, things were good.

They have a picture of me inside the stadium! I'm sorry I haven't been back in a couple years. Don't be mad at me.

KD: You said you're buddies with Kevin Riley. Are you giving him any advice?

AR: I told Kev if he needed anything I could help him out ... I texted him a few times during the season. Just said hey, you're doing a good job, keep it up, keep your head up. He's a good kid and a great, great guy. I'm definitely pulling for him and the Bears.

KD: Are you still catching some Cal football games during the season?

AR: You know, the problem is we get these horrible Big-10 games out here. Like Indiana playing Illinois ... I'm like wanting to watch Cal, UCLA, some of these big games going on, but we never get them. Occasionally Cal will be on TBS or play on ABC, but usually we get really bad regional coverage out here and I have to watch one of those boring Midwest games.

KD: What was your living situation like at Cal?

AR: My second year I lived off campus down by the Ashby BART station. My room mate was actually a chef. He was going to culinary school. So it was great because I got to be the guinea pig for all his recipe stuff.

KD: Did you plan that on purpose?

AR: He was my best friend from high school and he was like, 'Hey man, I'm going down to San Francisco to go to college.' I said I was moving out of the dorms and he said, 'Let's live together. I'll commute over there.'

It was perfect for both of us. We lived in this real small apartment and occasionally when we scrapped together some money, I made him cook for me.

KD: I just saw Troy Aikman graduated. Is there any chance you'll come back someday and finish your degree here at Cal?

AR: I'd like to. I've taken a couple classes at the University of Wisconsin, Green Bay. Just ones that will transfer over. So it's definitely something I want to do. In the short term-right now-obviously football is my focus. Eventually, I would definitely like to graduate. Hopefully before I'm 40.

KD: You've had a moustache, you've rocked the long hair, is there anything we should be expecting of you this season in the hair or facial hair departments?

AR: I do have some plans. For the last three years especially I've done some sort of moustache for the preseason. I have a straight 'stache. We're 0-2 and my quarterback rating is under 70 with just the straight 'stache.

For the last road preseason game, I always do some sort of dress-up. Two years ago I had a comb over with a straight 'stache, aviators, a lime green turtleneck and an old sport coat, and the flight attendants actually didn't recognize me. Last year, I dressed up as a Civil War guy with the beard that goes with the moustache where you shave your chin.

I'm not actually sure what I'm going to do yet (this season), but it's definitely going to be involving some sort of moustache or beard. I might-I don't really want to let the cat out of the bag-but I'm a big fan of 'The Most Interesting Man in the World' from the Dos Equis commercials so there might be something involving that.
