Council Members Urged
Accusing members of the ASUC Judicial Council of bias, Queer Council Facilitator Kenny Kroll called for the impeachment of two council members at the Senate meeting Wednesday.
After the Judicial Council shot down Kroll's motion to postpone his case against Student Action presidential candidate Misha Leybovich, Kroll accused council Chair Mike Davis and Councilmember Amit Banerji of violating ASUC rules when they failed to notify Kroll of his hearing 48 hours in advance.
"The council chose to blatantly disregard the ASUC bylaws," Kroll said. "What they translated to me is that they simply did not want to hear my case."
Davis said council members tried to get in touch with Kroll for more than a week before the hearing. The council could not hear the case later because there were other cases on the council's docket, he said. As it stands, election results will not be released until summer.
Davis said nothing in ASUC rules which requires Kroll to be given 48 hours notice, and that Kroll could be misunderstanding the rules.
According to the council's Rules of Procedure, "All evidence relevant to a hearing must be submitted to the council and opposing parties 48 hours prior to the time briefs are due."
The ASUC Senate can remove Judicial Council members by a vote of two-thirds of the body, or 14 votes.
Kroll pulled support from five senators, Independent Senator Alex de la Riva, FREE WEED! Senator Alina Azizian, International Students Party Senator Imad Ahmed and CalSERVE Senators Peter Gee and Ricardo Valencia, to submit a request for an informal meeting next week to discuss the case with both sides. They will make their recommendation at the ASUC senate meeting.
