• Shortly before kickoff at all of Cal's home football games, the marching band and Oski, the school mascot, run onto the field to excite the crowd.

In the No. 10 Bears' 41-14 victory Saturday over New Mexico State, however, Oski added a different flavor to the traditional race through the tunnel.

With a blue and gold Cal draped over his shoulders, Oski rode into the stadium and across the field on a Segway, a state-of-the-art, two-wheeled vehicle.

The Segway allows its rider to cruise standing upright without fear of falling down. Innovational balancing technology erases such a concern.

Oski's joy ride brought cheers from the record number of fans in attendance. During the actual game, however, Oski reverted to moving around under his own power.

• In the first half of the football game, the yell leaders began a chant for Jon Scheyer, a top recruit from Glenbrook North High School in Chicago.

The crowd began a chant of "We want Scheyer" after the yell leaders announced his attendance at the game.

The 6-foot-5 point guard is reportedly considering a list of colleges to attend, with Cal and Duke near the top.

• Bears quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been sporting a full suit and tie during his postgame interview sessions this season.

In 2003, Rodgers donned less formal attire-such as a Joe Montana tee-after contests.

The change seems to be based on his Heisman campaign. The junior signal-caller was featured on ESPN.com's Heisman watch list following Cal's season-opening victory over Air Force.

• Injury report: The Bears suffered minor injuries during Saturday's victory over New Mexico State.

Right guard Jonathan Giesel was carted off the field in the first half with what coach Jeff Tedford described as a bruised calf.

Tight End Garrett Cross was also hurt during the game.

"Cross has maybe a sprained knee," Tedford said after the contest. "I don't know the extent of that."

Additionally, wide receiver Geoff McArthur played with a pulled rib muscle that he hurt earlier in the week.
