The Panhellenic Council voted Thursday night to accept revisions to the Greek Social Code, moving the university and the Greek system one step closer to repealing the alcohol moratorium.

The vote, coupled with the Interfraternity Council's 25-3 vote Wednesday night, will allow Tier 1-size parties-which curb attendance at 150-to occur at campus Greek chapters by the end of the month.

Of the 11 Panhellenic sororities present at the vote, 10 voted to accept the code, with one sorority choosing to abstain. The voting was conducted through one elected delegate from each Panhellenic sorority.

"I think the social code has been revised in a way where all the issues regarding the university and Greek community have been covered," said Christina Zhao, president. of the Panhellenic Council, the body representing UC Berkeley sororities. "Now we're going to slowly phase back Tier 1 events."

University administrators placed the ban on alcohol consumption at Greek events in May, following allegations of hazing and misconduct.
