Bears announce 2012-13 schedule

A battle of brainy teams, a trip to Madison, Wisc., and four other matchups against teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament last year highlight the Cal men’s basketball team’s regular season schedule released Friday. The Bears’ 31-game regular season slate includes 16 home games — four of which will be against teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

This past weekend, both the Cal men’s and women’s basketball teams played in the Pac-12 Tournament against Stanford, Colorado and other teams. The men lost in the semifinals, while the women advanced to the final. Both squads have first-round games in the NCAA Tournament this week.

Jorge Gutierrez is the first player in Pac-12 history to win Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors. The senior guard has cemented his legacy on the Cal program in his four years in Berkeley.
