Cal loses Cheez-It Bowl to TCU, 10-7 OT, in woeful offensive showing

Cal (7-6, 4-5) and TCU’s (7-6, 4-5) overtime contest that ended in favor of the Horned Frogs, 10-7, featured a historically bad nine interceptions (Cal five, TCU, four) and was only meekly revived by both squads’ defense.

Is a coaching change the answer for Cal’s offense?

The Bears’ offensive efficiency ranked as the second worst among all Power Five teams, ending just above Rutgers and below eternal laughingstock Kansas. How do you ruin the efforts of a defense that was top 10 in the nation by just about any statistic?

Instant analysis/reaction: Big Game losing skid extended to 9

Too many mistakes were made for the Bears to truly deserve this one. A missed field goal, dropped balls, multiple overthrown passes and a late penalty for roughing the passer are inexcusable against David Shaw’s smart and physical squad.
