Group live tackle seemed to be where the players had the most fun as they got physical and hard-hitting with one another. The drill was hectic, with coaches running everywhere paired with inaudible chants as coach after coach tried to get his word in. The drill resembled what you would see on Discovery Channel when the lions are fighting one another to gain the title of alpha.

Bears break out pads, run live action in 6th practice

“I think the whole defense didn’t practice at all last year,” said an onlooker in the stands at Cal football’s sixth practice. Many may share his sentiments, but Cal’s defense, now led by Tim DeRuyter, showed some promise on Saturday. Getting their first taste under the lights this fall camp, the Bears were hyped and energized to finally get their pads on and get down to business.

Bring ’em out; Bears begin fall camp

At the beginning of practice, speakers blared and Gucci Mane’s “Met Gala” set the the tone for camp, but a short while later, the music was gone in what seemed like an even bigger change in tone. While it was only the first day of camp, it was clear that the Bears were hard at work, and with good reason. Many predict that Cal will have a mediocre season and camp is going to be crucial for the Bears if they want to make waves in an extremely competitive Pac-12 conference.

Justin Wilcox, Tre Watson and James Looney take Pac-12 Media Day

Voting on the tastiest donut, trying to figure out if a certain head also stars in “Game of Thrones” and getting messy with some slime stole the show in star-studded Hollywood. During the 2017 Pac-12 Media Day, senior Tre Watson and redshirt senior James Looney of Cal football, along with head coach Justin Wilcox, took a break from the practice field for some fun and games.

3 Bears selected in 2017 NFL Draft

Following the 2017 NFL Draft, both former Bears are moving to the east coast and meeting back up in New York, Webb with the Giants and Hansen with the Jets. The two will have another year of sharing the field, this time at MetLife Stadium; they’ll just be alternating weeks.
