Police responded to an armed robbery directly south of the UC Berkeley campus on Sunday morning.

At about 8:30 a.m., a woman was walking on the 2300 block of Channing Way, near Dana Street, when a man passed her on the sidewalk, turned around and pointed a gun at her, according to a UCPD crime alert. He then took her purse, ran south on Dana and entered the passenger side of a car that had stopped on the street.

Officers from UCPD and the Berkeley Police Department responded on the scene and searched the area but could not find the suspect or the vehicle. The victim was not injured during the encounter.

The suspect was described as a male in his 20s, with a thin build, wearing dark clothing.

The car was described as a blue four-door sedan, with “large bright yellow strips or something similar around the bottom edge of the car,” according to the alert.
