UC Berkeley’s email system — CalMail — which has been down due to hardware problems since Friday morning, is expected to be available again by Monday morning, according to an announcement posted Friday at 4 p.m. on the system’s website.

The system has experienced a serious hardware failure, preventing all users from logging in to CalMail. According to the announcement, the database that maintains account holder information has been corrupted and must be rebuilt, a lengthy process that requires the system to be down.

Email messages already within mailboxes are protected, and incoming mail is being deferred, according to the announcement.

An update posted on the system’s website Saturday morning states that the repair process is on schedule to make CalMail available to the campus by Monday morning.
