Sample Sundays: Top Five Study Break Jams

Interscope/Courtesy

What up y’all? Dead week is here. And that means finals are coming up. So, in my last Sample Sunday post before finals get here (don’t worry, I’ll be back) I’ve decided to compile my Top Five Study Break Jams, with their samples included of course. You’ve got a lot of reading to do, so, with no more delay, get ready to hit replay, because here they are:

Top Five Study Break Jams

(Hip-Hop song first, sample second)

5. Dr. Dre feat. Snoop Dogg – Nuthin’ But A G’ Thang

Leon Haywood – I Want’a Do Something Freaky To You

(Both of these songs were chosen to make you feel like a straight G’ as you crack open those books and prepare to smack those final exams with the back hand.)

4. NaS – The World Is Yours

Ahmad Jamal – I Love Music

(The title of NaS’s song really says it all. Have crazy confidence going into those finals y’all. And when you get stressed, let Mr. Jamal soothe your psyche.)

3. Ice Cube – It Was A Good Day

The Isely Brothers – Footsteps In the Dark

(No matter how much studying you have to do, make sure you look up for the “Goodyear Blimp” as it tells you that you’re a pimp. And remember, now matter how grim your final week looks, at least you “didn’t have to bust [your] A.K.”)

2. DJ Quik – Tonite

Kleer – Tonight

(Once you’ve decided to take an extended break, it’s time to get funky, throw on the mellow maestro, DJ Quik, and let his debauched tales amp you up for your post final West Coast celebration.)

1. House of Pain – Jump Around

Jr. Walker & The All-Stars – Shoot Your Shot

(When you can’t sit down anymore, when the numbers, the quotes, and all that other stuff is bouncing around inside your dome like a sex-starved rabbit, and you’re feeling like one too, get up out yo’ seat and…)

It’s been real y’all. Thanks for checking in every Sunday, good luck on those finals, and maybe I’ll get at you over break with some Winter Wonderland samples.

One love.
