Keenan Allen probably wasn’t going to get too many reps during spring practice.
Now, the star wide receiver won’t be getting any.
Allen is scheduled for ankle surgery on Thursday and will miss all of spring practice, head coach Jeff Tedford tweeted on Wednesday. He is expected to make a full recovery and be ready for summer workouts before the fall season.
In Monday’s teleconference, Tedford had already said that Allen, as well as starting running back Isi Sofele, would “get very limited reps,” based on their previous success.
Allen, who will be a junior in the fall, was an All-Pac-12 selection in 2011 after catching 89 passes and gaining 1,261 receiving yards, both of which rank second all-time on Cal’s single season record list.
The season kicks off on Sep. 1 against Nevada at Memorial Stadium.
