Berkeley police detained a man Thursday morning after he threw a plastic sign multiple times at another person and subsequently tried to flee, according to police.
At approximately 9:10 a.m. Thursday, the man tried to swing a plastic “wet floor” sign at a member of a social service program at a church in the 2300 block of Bancroft Way, according to a crime blotter provided by the Berkeley Police Department.
The suspect missed, and after repeated failed attempts to hit the victim with the sign, and fled, according to the blotter.
After the man toppled folding chairs and tables and ran from the building, Berkeley police officers detained a suspect nearby.
The victim positively identified the detainee as the suspect, according to the blotter. The suspect is a 37-year-old homeless man from Las Vegas, who was found to have marijuana in his possession.
