Reward of $17,000 offered for information about Berkeley homicide

The city of Berkeley is offering $15,000, and the Bay Area Crime Stoppers is offering an additional $2,000, for information leading to the arrest of suspects in Thursday’s homicide in Berkeley.

On Thursday, Vallejo resident Devin Whitmere was shot and killed in South Berkeley in the city’s third homicide of 2012.

According to police, Whitmere and another person walked out of Bob’s Liquors at the corner of Oregon and Sacramento streets when they were approached by a group of people, at least one of whom had a firearm. Whitmere was shot multiple times and was found by police in the middle of the roadway on Oregon.

Berkeley resident Randall Oscar Alston has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

The Berkeley Police Department is still investigating the incident and is looking for “all reasonable suspects,” according to a release from the department.
