Listed below are the results of the 2012 ASUC general election, as announced at Thursday night’s tabulation in the Valley Life Sciences Building at 6 p.m.
During voting, which was held April 10, 11 and 12, students ranked candidates in order of preference. Following the calculation of the highest ranked votes, the votes that would have gone to those who received the least number of votes are redistributed to whoever was ranked as the voter’s second preference. The process continues until a clear winner emerges.
The election tabulator stops calculating votes for a candidate after that candidate reaches a certain quota, because no candidate could get enough votes to defeat the candidate who reached quota after that point.
According to the Elections Council, this year was the highest voter turnout in recorded history at about 12,600 votes.
