Cal Dining negotiating with food vendors to sell at Memorial Stadium

Cal Dining — the campus dining program that feeds UC Berkeley students who live in the campus’ Residential and Student Service Programs housing — is currently in negotiations with several outside food vendors to provide Memorial Stadium concessions.

Cal Dining announced in June that it would be entering into a 15-year contract with Cal Athletics beginning July 1 to provide all of its concessions for home sporting events. Last week, Cal Dining received a contract from campus lawyers and is now in the process of talking with many vendors who could potentially be sub-contractors, according to Cal Dining Executive Director Shawn LaPean.

“Cal Dining is committed to providing a wide range of food options for Golden Bear fans and is in discussions with local vendors to help increase the variety of choices available on gamedays,” reads a Cal Dining press release.

“Cal Dining does not work with other food vendors or sub-contractors on campus,” LaPean said in an email. “Stadium concessions is the exception where for this first year we are looking at a number of restaurant partners.”

LaPean said Cal Dining and potential partners would like to have agreements in writing before providing more information on which vendors they are in talks with.

However, the San Jose Mercury News reported that Cal Athletics is negotiating with Berkeley institution Top Dog to sell its popular hot dogs at Memorial Stadium this season.
