ChronoZoom, an online educational tool created by UC Berkeley researchers, won an Interactive Award last week at the 2013 South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas.

The tool is a zoomable timeline that charts “big history” and uses innovative online technology to organize history along zoom factors. Chronozoom was founded by Roland Saekow, a UC Berkeley researcher and recent graduate of the university, and Walter Alvarez, a professor in the campus Department of Earth and Planetary Science.

The tool won in the “Educational Resource” category, beating out for other finalists for the prize.
