Suspected car-to-car shooting occurs in Southwest Berkeley

A car-to-car shooting occurred at Seventh and Potter streets Wednesday night around 8:53 p.m.

Berkeley Police Department responded to calls from community members who reported hearing gunshots, according to BPD Sgt. Mary Kusmiss. When police arrived, witnesses showed officers shell casings that had fallen on Potter Street. Bullets appeared to have struck a building and a parked vehicle, Kusmiss said.

According to Kusmiss, BPD suspects that individuals in two separate cars, a Honda and a BMW, got into an argument at the gas station on the corner of Seventh and Potter streets. When the BMW left the gas station, the Honda followed it. The initial investigation has led police to believe that the individual or individuals in the Honda shot at the BMW.

When BPD arrived at the crime scene, both vehicles had already left the area.

No victims have been identified, but BPD has asked local hospitals to notify them if any gunshot victims arrive. A further investigation is ongoing.
