A transient man was found dead on Tuesday on the west side of CVS Pharmacy on Shattuck Avenue and Rose Street, according to Berkeley Police Department Sgt. Mary Kusmiss.

At 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, BPD received a call from a community member who had become concerned after trying to engage with the man. After BPD performed a welfare check, paramedics from Berkeley Fire Department pronounced him dead at the scene.

Afterward, the Alameda County Coroner’s Office picked up the body for identification. Because there were no signs of foul play, the man’s death is not being investigated as suspicious, and BPD has closed the case.
