Man fatally shot in West Berkeley early Sunday evening

An adult male was shot and killed in West Berkeley at 1400 Eighth Street early Sunday evening.

Berkeley police responded to phone calls about 5:40 p.m. and found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds at the intersection of Eighth and Page streets.

BPD spokesperson officer Jennifer Coats said the victim was transported by Berkeley Fire Department to a nearby hospital, where he was immediately pronounced dead.

Homicide detectives are on the scene, canvassing for witnesses and evidence.

Coats declined to release any more details until the investigation has concluded.
