Berkeley Police Department is investigating the manner and cause of death of a man after his body was discovered Wednesday at the Berkeley Marina.

On Wednesday at 3:16 p.m, BPD officers responded to the Berkeley Marina after receiving a report of a body in the water. Officers arrived on scene and discovered the remains of an adult male near the shoreline along West Frontage Road south of University Avenue. According to Berkeleyside, the man was declared dead at the scene.

The victim has now been identified as Jerald Jacob, a 69-year-old Berkeley resident who was reported missing Oct. 23.

East Bay Regional Parks Police Department, in conjunction with the Berkeley Police Department, has been conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death. Because BPD handled the initial missing person report, it will be the lead agency in this investigation.
