A large fire broke out at The Wooden Duck furniture store in West Berkeley Saturday night.

The five-alarm fire was reported at 7:55 p.m. According to Lt. Dave Frankel of the Berkeley Police Department, the fire started at 1802 2nd Street, which is the location of Blocka Wood, a woodworking store.  The Wooden Duck is located on 1823 Eastshore Highway near the highway overpass off University Avenue.

According to Bill De Carion, owner of Import Tile on Hearst Ave, other businesses affected include Joshua Tree, a furniture store on 2nd Street. He approximated $1 million in damages to the buildings burned down.

Officials reported that the fire was contained at around 10:35 p.m. with no reported injuries at the time. Street lamps on Hearst Ave were shut down and power was out in the nearby area, though electricity was restored in part of the area. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Berkeley Fire Department asked for assistance from Albany and Alameda fire departments.
