Are you doing anything on May 3? Of course not, it’s the first Saturday before dead week and you deserve to get out and soak up some sun before hunkering down in Main Stacks for the following six days.
Luckily for you, UC Berkeley student reading these words, this Saturday is Free Comic Book Day (FCBD)! Yes, FCBD is a magical day of the year where comic shops across the world welcome newcomers with open arms and hand out special issues of select series designed to bring new readers into the wide world of comics.
Berkeley students and citizens can look forward to FCBD events at three amazing local shops: Fantastic Comics on Shattuck and Addison Ave., Dr. Comics and Mr. Games on Piedmont Ave. in Oakland and The Escapist on Claremont Ave. Fantastic Comics, along with offering grab bags full of comics and other goodies, will also feature photo opportunities with the 501st Stormtrooper Legion cosplay group.
Free Comic Book Day only comes around once a year, so spend your Saturday out and about in the East Bay, hopefully with a new, nerdy interest in hand.
