2nd suspect in June 11 double shooting arrested early Friday morning

Anthony Durant

Anthony Durant, 23, who police believe was a suspect in a June 11 double shooting, was arrested early Friday morning on suspicion of assault with a firearm after turning himself in to police.

Police arrested Durant around 3:30 a.m. According to Alameda County Inmate Locator, which may be later altered, Durant is being held in the Berkeley jail with bail set at $60,000. His arraignment, along with 22-year-old Donzale Mejia’s, will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in Oakland.

Berkeley Police Department previously alerted the community that Durant should be considered “armed and dangerous” after serving four search warrants for his and Mejia’s arrest. BPD could not be immediately reached for comment.

Mejia and Durant could face felony charges in court for the alleged assault with firearm. The two victims in the shooting sustained nonlife-threatening injuries.

On Thursday night, a separate shooting was reported outside a liquor store. Earlier in the month, a double shooting was reported at a West Berkeley inn.
