A male UC Berkeley student and resident of Hoyt Hall Cooperative allegedly sexually assaulted a female student, another resident of the co-op, last month.
According to a UCPD crime alert released Monday, the sexual assault took place June 27 and was reported to the Office for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination. The office, which alerted UCPD, will oversee the investigation into the incident, according to UCPD Lt. Marc DeCoulode.
Berkeley Student Cooperative Executive Director Kim Benson said the BSC follows its internal conduct policies and procedures and takes necessary steps to ensure the safety of its members when this type of incident occurs. According to BSC bylaws, a member of the co-op system may be removed from the house if he or she “constitutes an immediate danger to the safety of other members.”
Maggie Hardy, house president of Hoyt Hall, declined to comment on the incident.
