UCPD arrested a 55-year-old man in connection with a series of burglaries and grand theft cases on campus.

The incidents took place between June and July and involved the theft of laptops, computer monitors and a conference room speaker. Last week, the Alameda County District Attorney’s office charged Edward Clark with six counts of burglary after UCPD’s investigation.

According to the county inmate locator system, Clark was not in custody Thursday. UCPD Lt. Marc DeCoulode attributed his release to a paperwork issue.

Clark stole items from Evans Hall, the Haas School of Business, Davis Hall, Cory Hall, Sutardja Dai Hall and Haviland Hall, police said. Most of the burglaries occurred by window smash. Investigators were not able to recover the stolen property.

Although burglaries on campus are relatively common, UCPD has not arrested one person in connection with this many cases in recent memory, DeCoulode said.
