As of Friday afternoon, updated results show that George Beier and Kriss Worthington remain in the lead for City Council seats of District 8 and 7, respectively.

According to results posted by the Alameda County Registrar, incumbent candidate Worthington maintains about a 10 percentage point lead over challenger Sean Barry. Should Worthington be re-elected to the council, he will begin his term presiding over new district lines that bound a majority student-aged population. Worthington leads by 110 votes.

Beier leads Lori Droste by a narrower margin as of Friday afternoon — he maintains a 0.56 percentage point lead, which represents about a 19-vote lead. If elected to the council, Beier said he hopes to revitalize the Telegraph Avenue area and push for affordable housing. Droste also advocates more progressive policies and affordable housing. Neither candidate has sat on City Council.

The registrar has not yet counted all mail-in ballots and said in an earlier release that ballots will continue to be counted into the weekend and early next week. Under state law, the county registrar has until Dec. 2 to certify election results.
