Two suspects were arrested Tuesday in connection with an armed robbery and kidnapping, which took place Thanksgiving morning in the hills above campus.

Police arrested Jose Avila, 18, and Brenton Holtzclaw, 18, on suspicion of assault with a firearm, armed robbery, kidnapping and carjacking. A third suspect, a juvenile, was already in custody.

On Nov. 27, a man and woman were allegedly approached on Grizzly Peak Way by the three suspects, two of whom were allegedly armed with handguns. The suspects allegedly demanded money, and when the victims said they didn’t have any, the men allegedly ordered them to drive to an ATM and retrieve money from it. The victims were not harmed.

The two men are being held at Berkeley Jail with bail set at $630,000 each. Their arraignment hearings will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse in Oakland.
