A vehicle struck and seriously injured a pedestrian in West Berkeley on Wednesday afternoon.
About 1 p.m., an accident involving a car and a pedestrian occurred at the intersection of San Pablo Avenue and Allston Way, according to Berkeley Police Department spokesperson Officer Jennifer Coats. Police said the driver, a 26-year-old man, was heading north on San Pablo and was turning onto Allston when he struck a man walking in the crosswalk. The vehicle then crashed into an electrical box.
The pedestrian, a 63-year-old man from Hayward, received serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Police said he has been in contact with traffic investigators. The driver cooperated with authorities, Coats said in an email, and drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the collision.
