The Berkeley Fire Department responded to a fire early Thursday morning at 2420 Shattuck Avenue.

At 6:12 a.m., a fire was reported at Giovanni, an Italian restaurant. A fire had started on the first floor of the two-story building, and had spread through the second floor by the time responders arrived at the scene, according to Deputy Fire Chief Avery Webb.

The fire was reportedly controlled by 6:58 a.m., and no injuries were reported. The cause is currently under investigation, although no foul play is suspected, Webb said.
