Monday night was the illustrious Met Gala in New York, where A-listers came to celebrate this year’s theme, “China: Through the Looking Glass.” All eyes were turned on the celebrities who came in full force, wearing fashion that did anything but bore. There were pops of color, similar style choices between Kim Kardashian and Beyonce, and a stylistically brave Sarah Jessica Parker pulling a 2013 by wearing a ginormous head piece — again. In honor of this year’s theme, the celebrities on this best-dressed list are those who actually wore pieces by Chinese designers. Let’s take a look:
1. Rihanna (wearing Guo Pei)

This dress has already become an Internet sensation — just look up some of the memes. Rihanna was majestic in a yellow wonder that had her walking in like a queen. Far surpassing anyone else’s attempt, the dress was an exquisite blend of embroidered silk and fur. It covered the right places but still had extreme sex appeal, letting a glimpse of her leg peak through a nicely placed slit. The cute little flip at the end of her hair accompanied by the gold headpiece gave the rest of her look a very surreal quality, allowing her to look like art itself.
2. Fan Bingbing (wearing Christopher Bu)

Fan Bingbing, one of the most beautiful women of the night, wore an exquisite and show-stopping dress. The singer and actress absolutely slayed wearing a gold-sequined number with an emerald-green cape that delicately covered her shoulders. The cape featured more golden sequins and an intricate design in shades of blue, blush pink, gold and rusted red. Looking sleek and regal with her minimalistic, pulled-back bun and coy cat-eye, Bingbing owned the night.
3. Lady Gaga (wearing Balenciaga by Alexander Wang)

In an over-the-top yet amazing overcoat-type ensemble, Lady Gaga stood out as usual. She rocked a color scheme of black and white, with sequined pants underneath. The overcoat featured white overlay with cutouts and black feathers throughout, all finished off neatly with a chic bow in the middle. Gaga’s black eyebrows were sharp and totally complimented her slicked-back black hair and black crown. Together, her hair and makeup completed the look and put her among the best dressed.
4. Selena Gomez (wearing Vera Wang)

Lovely in ivory, Selena Gomez looked very feminine and classic but still managed to pull off a twist. An on-trend bandeau bra created a cutout in the front of her dress, which was held up with a black, tassel-styled rope. Her makeup was dramatic and included a red lip and an updo topped with a flower crown. Looking mature yet still young and fresh, Gomez played with the theme in a sweet way that didn’t overpower her. Her natural beauty was able to shine through in this formfitting number.
5. Carey Mulligan (wearing Balenciaga by Alexander Wang)

It is sometimes the simplest dresses that make a stunning statement. Here, Carey Mulligan pulled off looking timeless in a black Balenciaga gown. While not explicitly thematic, the jeweled collar that held up the dress had a sense of regal extravagance that was just right for Mulligan. Not too overwhelming, the dress had a small high-low type of hem with a very short circular train in the back. Alexander Wang was even able to pull off a seam in the front of the dress that actually made it more flattering. Her hairstyle could have been a little cleaner, but the light eye and dark plum lip sat well with the overall look. Overall, Mulligan’s look was a striking success.
