A car chase early Monday morning that occurred near Oxford Street and University Avenue ended when the stolen Honda crashed into another vehicle on Hearst Avenue.

The pursuit of the Honda began near Concord, California, and was taken over by Oakland’s California Highway Patrol division when the Honda began driving the wrong direction on Highway 4 and made its way to Berkeley streets, according to CHP spokesperson Officer Sean Wilkenfeld.

CHP ground units began pursuing the vehicle near the campus when it stopped driving in the wrong direction on streets, and a helicopter had been following the vehicle since soon after it left Concord, according to Wilkenfeld.

The driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital, and Oakland’s CHP division is pursuing active leads to locate the driver of the stolen Honda, Wilkenfeld said. CHP did not find the driver when it searched the area after the crash.
