According to a recently published post, UC Berkeley tops the list of colleges with the most stressed-out students. Here, students experience a challenging and competitive atmosphere. Berkeley changes us as we try to overcome the stress present in our everyday life. We’ve noticed that you can tell a lot about a person by how they handle stressful situations. So we put together a quiz to help you figure out how you handle stress.

  1. During summer, the thing you miss most about Berkeley is:
    1. Relaxing on grassy knolls
    2. The intellectual atmosphere
    3. The fast paced environment
    4. You actually don’t miss Berkeley that much and are grateful for the break
  2. Your thoughts before finals were:
    1. “Stay positive. You’re a beautiful ray of sunshine, and you are more than a letter grade.”
    2. “Feeling good. Let’s do this.”
    3. “I just want to get this over with and take whatever comes.”
    4. “I’m going to die. I’m going to die. I’m going to die.”
  3. Your favorite pair of shoes are your:
    1. Birkenstocks
    2. Converse
    3. Sperry’s
    4. Rain boots

    1. Meditate or pray
    2. Smoke a cigarette
    3. Nap
    4. You never take a break
  6. Remember that one week when you had three midterms, two papers and homework to turn in? You:
    1. Comforted yourself with the knowledge that you had kept up on all the readings and homework while you studied
    2. Studied until your brain fell out
    3. Did most, if not all, studying and writing the night before each
    4. Drafted an email to your GSI with a made-up excuse for an extension — something original like you were hit by lightning while volunteering as a sheep herder over the weekend
  7. You feel you could improve on these skills next semester:
    1. Trying new things
    2. Balancing your social, sleep and school schedules
    3. Procrastinating less
    4. Stopping your obsessing over mistakes
  8. You go on Bear Facts and discover that you failed one of your classes. You:
    1. Burst into “Hakuna Matata”
    2. Stare at the final grade for 5 minutes
    3. Cry
    4. Toss your hands into the air, declaring institutionalized education a farce
    1. hippieYou handle stress like a hippie. You keep it zen and tend not to over-stress about college life. Sometimes, though, you can be too pacifistic and need to take things more seriously.
    2. hipster lil mermaid You handle stress like a hipster. You are well-adjusted and enjoy a challenge as well as the learning process. You keep up to date on your assignments and like to spend time organizing your schedule.
    3. 09.10.haas.BAKERYou handle stress like an ambitious Haas major. You try to not stress out, but there are certain things you are obsessed with. You’re probably considering applying to Haas or an equally competitive graduate program and try to challenge yourself as much as possible. Sometimes you can overdo it and let stress take over. When that happens, get some more rest or pick up a hobby to distract you.
    4. stressYou, my friend, are a stress ball. You tend to let the stress get to you more often than not, but that’s because you tend to take on more than you can chew. Often you feel overprepared or like you could have done more. Remember that it’s OK to take a break every now and again and try to focus on the positive.
