Out of more than 100 public schools and universities, UC Berkeley topped the list as the top public university in the country, according to rankings released Wednesday.
The U.S. News & World Report’s annual list of leading public universities takes into account various methodologies to assess their rankings, such as research quality and academic excellence. This year, half of the nation’s top 10 public universities were University of California campuses.
In July, the Center for World University Rankings ranked UC Berkeley as the best public university in the world, with UCLA, UCSD and UCSF rounding out the top 10.
“These rankings, like others, demonstrate that California leads the nation in the quality of its public higher education – and that the University of California is unique,” said UC President Janet Napolitano in a press release. “No other state has more than two public universities among the top 11 publics, and the UC system has six.”
