Cal Athletics announced Saturday morning that junior guard Mercedes Jefflo has been dismissed from the women’s basketball team, releasing the following statement:

“Mercedes Jefflo has been dismissed from the California Women’s Basketball team. We cannot comment further on this situation at this time due to FERPA laws protecting students’ rights. The well-being of our students is of paramount importance to us. We care deeply about Mercedes and wish her well.”

Last season, Jefflo made a team-high 44 3-pointers and helped lead the team to an overall 25-10 (13-5 Pac-12) record and an appearance in the second round of the NCAA tournament. The Compton native averaged 10 points and 2.6 assists for the Bears as a sophomore.

Cal will now head into next season without its three leading scorers from last year: Reshanda Gray, Brittany Boyd and Jefflo.
