Berkeley cyclist dies in collision with MUNI in San Francisco

A Berkeley cyclist was killed Sunday after colliding with a San Francisco MUNI bus on Market Street.

About 3:26 p.m. Sunday, Mark Heryer was traveling westbound on Market Street near Sutter Street, when he lost control of his bicycle and collided with a nearby bus. Heryer, a 48-year-old man from Berkeley, died on the scene. The specifics of the collision are still under investigation, according to San Francisco Police Department, and no determination of fault has been made.

“Investigators will take into account the time of day, road conditions, traffic conditions, as well as any video surveillance which may have captured the incident,” SFPD released in a statement to news outlets.

Ed Reiskin, director of transportation for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, or SFMTA, wrote in a statement Sunday that SFMTA expresses its condolences to the family and friends of Heyer and that “our agency will work closely with SFPD to ascertain all facts of this truly unfortunate event.”
