With the weather so sunny and your assignments so dreary, life may be feeling a bit dull. If you need a stress-relieving activity, channel your artistic whims and decorate some pumpkins. It’s easy, cheap and you don’t need any sort of artistic talent, trust us. Gather some friends and roommates, put on a spooky Halloween movie, make some tea, set out some delicious pumpkin-flavored snacks and start decorating. You can get creative with your pumpkins and forget all about those undone assignments you have left. Plus, they make for great, festive room decor.
Supplies can be found at any art store or convenience store. We at the Clog ventured to Daiso and Walgreens. We bought pom poms and paint brushes from Daiso and paint and glitter from Walgreens. You can find pumpkins for less than a dollar at Trader Joe’s. Get creative! You can buy or make a variety of different decorations for your pumpkins. Don’t limit yourself.
You can write on your pumpkins with sharpies or paint. At a loss for ideas? Just write your name or your favorite sports team’s name. You can even write your friends’ names and give it to them as Halloween goodies. Perhaps you would like to write your favorite quotes or lyrics. “Trick or treat” and “boo” work well too. “Creep it real” was the winner for us.
Here’s a good trick. If you can’t find white pumpkins so that you’ll use them as a blank canvas, you can paint one coat of white over orange pumpkins. Wait a few minutes for them to dry, and you can paint different colors over them to make them look extra awesome.
Mix and match your designs with glitter, markers and paint. Channel the color of your room so that your pumpkins fit right in. Or get spontaneous so that your pumkins will stand out! Polka dots, swirly lines, ombre and zigzags are just the beginning!
If you’re as big of a foodie as we are, you’ll look for pretty much any way to embrace the sweet treats of Halloween. Here’s our attempt of making a donut pumpkin. A donut would go great right about now as we admire our scrumptious pumpkins, wouldn’t it?
Perhaps you’re an animal lover or you miss your pets at home. Make your best guess as to what your favorite animal would look like in pumpkin form. Add a face, some whiskers with pipe cleaners if need be, a pom pom tail and there you have it. Our pink bunny is just darling, don’t you think?
Make sure to clean up your mess and set your pumpkins to dry. Save your craft materials for future holiday DIY projects!
