A person was caught underneath a train in the Downtown Berkeley BART station and subsequently rescued by firefighters Sunday morning, closing the station for about two hours and disrupting train service.

According to BART Police Department Lt. Randy Gregson, the individual was reported on the trackway at 8:35 a.m. and sustained nonlife-threatening injuries. She was transported to a local hospital about 8:50 a.m.

Because of the incident, the station remained closed until 10:20 a.m. A bus bridge was established between the North Berkeley and Ashby BART stations to accommodate passengers.

The cause of the incident remains undetermined, though it is not believed to be criminal in nature, Gregson said.
