Haste Street building catches on fire Monday afternoon

A building at 2441 Haste St. caught on fire Monday afternoon, according to Berkeley Police Department Lt. Jennifer Louis.

Berkeley Fire Department received a report of the fire at 12:54 p.m. and had it extinguished by 1:11 p.m., according to Gil Dong, interim deputy city manager. BPD also responded to the fire, with ambulances arriving at the scene.

The building had been under construction, but none of the workers inside were injured, Dong said.

The fire will cost about $5,000 in damage, according to Dong, and its cause remains under investigation
