An Amtrak train traveling through Berkeley hit a male trespasser about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Amtrak Capitol Corridor train No. 526 was traveling from the Oakland Coliseum to Sacramento, California, when it hit the passenger near the Gilman Street crossing in West Berkeley, according to Amtrak spokesperson Vernae Graham.

The man was transported to Highland Hospital in Oakland for his injuries, though his condition is unknown, according to Union Pacific spokesperson Francisco Castillo.

The incident, which was first reported by Berkeleyside, delayed the train and halted traffic until about 10:30 a.m. There were no injuries to the 27 passengers or three crew members, Graham said.

This marks the second time this month that a pedestrian was struck by an Amtrak train. In the first instance, on Feb. 8, 47-year-old Daniel Stalker died from his injuries.
