A male suspect was taken into custody by police Thursday after allegedly jumping over a counter and attempting to physically attack several individuals at a McDonald’s located at the intersection of Shattuck and University avenues.
According to Berkeley Police Department Lt. Dan Montgomery, police received several calls at around 3:56 p.m. reporting that a man had been acting erratically and had attempted to jump over the counter at the front of the restaurant.
Employees were able to pin the suspect to the ground as they waited for police to arrive at the scene, Montgomery said.
The suspect, who was not armed, had allegedly attempted to strike and choke two individuals, according to Montgomery. He added that before arriving at McDonald’s, the suspect had entered a laundromat on the same block as the restaurant and had reportedly physically attacked another individual. No individuals were hospitalized because of the attempted attack, Montgomery said.
Police are still investigating the suspect’s motive behind the attacks.
